To me, power means influence. Whether it’s from the top down or the bottom up, power is about harnessing our collective potential to challenge, uphold, resist or remake our world.

There are big names in South Australian history, that take up a lot of real estate in our history books and imaginations, but I’m increasingly drawn to the people who fall between the gaps of the archive. Those who have no personal papers to donate, who appear fleetingly in newspaper columns, before seeming to disappear again. In life, they might not have felt particularly empowered, but by examining these perspectives, we create a richer, more complicated, more authentic picture of this place and its past.
