A large part of my career and life has been here in South Australia, so I have many connections and memories.
There is one place that is not fancy and not a major tourist spot, but it means a lot to men and that is the lookout tower on the west side of Port Augusta. I spent Christmas’ with my grandparents and wider family in Port Augusta, and as a child, I was too scared to climb all the way to the top.
I remember the day I finally made it to the top, and I still climb that tower whenever I go back. It’s an anchor of childhood memories and a place I’ll continue to climb until I can climb it no more.
