When I was young I wanted only to get away from Adelaide and South Australia, feeling it was too small, too insignificant, that everything happened somewhere else. Despite spending most of my life here, there was part of me that felt like I didn’t really belong — here or anywhere. It took me years of travel and living elsewhere to realise the power of belonging, of ‘place’, and all that can mean.

It is only over the last few years that I have come to more truly appreciate where I am, and it’s been partly through seeking out stories of South Australians, well-known and less so, and depicting them in my ‘Local Icons’ series of lino prints, which continues to grow and evolve.
