Minister of Religion/The first Presbyterian woman to be ordained in South Australia
I grew up in a family where boys and girls, men and women had equal opportunities and equal rights. My grandfather who was born here in 1840, married late and had seven children. He believed that they should all have equal opportunities, so he taught the girls to play cricket and climb trees, and taught the boys to read poetry and paint with watercolour.
He’d teach both the boys and the girls to swim, which was very unusual. That is a core part of the ethos of the family and I grew up with that understanding. The fact I was a girl never inhibited me.
