When I think of power, I think of the power of giving, the power of being reasonable, the power of empathy, the power of kindness, the power of respect, the power of helping people… My mother told me my downfall is that I’m too kind to people… Maybe she’s right, but I think there’s power in that too. There’s also power in fulfilling one’s own dream.
Reflecting on powerful South Australians, of course there’s Dame Roma Mitchell — I adore her. She used to come into our shop [Miss Gladys Sym Choon], the most elegant woman, and socially so graceful. The things she achieved, love her work.
