My interest in shipwrecks is that they’re a demonstration of the power of the sea, formidable vessels that have nonetheless been wrecked and rendered vulnerable to the forces of nature… In recent times my focus has been less on the power of the ocean, and more on the power of people.

For example, volunteer groups, (of which I’m part), such as the volunteer project to retrieve and restore the Clipper Ship City of Adelaide — here we see a collection of people investing in doing things that Governments don’t do — there we see the power of the people in a very tangible sense. Government decisions, in many cases, are based on finances. Individuals’ decisions can be based on passion.
