Paddy O’Toole

Chair of National Trust of South Australia (Willunga Branch)

In thinking of powerful South Australians, I think of Dame Roma Mitchell, a woman who achieved so many firsts! And Mary MacKillop, who went against the Catholic Church to fulfil her mission. With Mary MacKillop, the thing that really impresses me so much is her inspiring persistence despite opposition from her detractors and critics. She had a sense of personal, powerful, purpose and self-assurance that her way would improve the world.

Power is the ability to achieve goals, being able to persuade people to follow a course to its conclusion. I also feel a powerful connection to the Willunga District and its heritage.
