I feel very powerful in my role as an educator of parents, regarding the necessity to read to their children. My fame as a writer lends me wings in this matter. I’m not proud of this and I’m not pleased about it, but fame itself gives you power.
I’m proud of the way that I’ve used my fame as a children’s writer, because as an educator, I’ve been able to publicly beg parents and families, carers, kindergarten teachers, librarians, and early childhood school teachers to read to young children, over and over, and over again, between birth and five, and where possible between birth and seven.
