Having been interested in current affairs since I was a lad, politics immediately springs to mind and the power of people who attain key positions. I’ve always been keen to emphasise the soft power of the workers, those people who make things happen through their labours, and even the family as a unit behind that, of carers, of tireless workers in the domestic sphere.

The power of longevity and experience is profound to me. We tend not to revere our seniors and our scholars and our storytellers, for all that the longer they’ve been around the more valuable they are. They have this long view of the ever-growing mosaic that is our collective story. And those who’ve been involved in building that mosaic are able to see both the bigger picture, and the individual tiles, in sharp focus.
