To be a proud First Nations woman is power. Within that statement I find a strength within myself. I have a trust in my knowledge and lineage to be authentic to myself holding strength within my truth and my beliefs.
Being a proud Kaurna and Narungga women and having the opportunity to work within my artistic practise on my country empowers me to softly decolonise the spaces I work within, offering a First Nation lens on ideas moving forward. I aim to communicate knowledge and experience learnt through the exploration of my ancestral lineage and culture. Connecting my practice through a comprehensive meditation of country, soul and healing.
I think some of the most powerful figures aren’t necessarily those known widely to history but are also those who enrich the community around me. I am constantly empowered by the women who surround me and the cultural leaders who deserve recognition for their strength and impacts. My nana Pearl is a massive presence within my landscape here, growing up she was someone I looked up to and held in the highest regard. My uncle Stephen ‘Gadlabarti’ Goldsmith who was a strong cultural leader within South Australia, making sure our culture was remembered, respected, and represented. Both were a knowledgeable and engaging presence within the landscape of South Australia. I think of them daily when moving forward in my journey.
