I think there is a lot of power in love. I know a lot of people who had similar stories to mine, they faced circumstances that can be very disempowering — whether that involves troubled family relationships, a lack of resources, past traumas — many of these people have ended up in a very different place to myself.

I really think the defining difference was in the strength of my mum’s love, and the sense of being valued by others that this offered me. I think we could apply that philosophy to our society more widely, and we’d see incredible rewards if people felt more the presumption of their value to others.
