A Herd of Diprotodon, 2017, Laurie Bernie, University of Queensland

‘The Nature of the Hidden World: A Mega Story’ Exhibition Opening

In 1891, Thomas Molan was digging at the back of his cottage in Gawler near the South Para River. His shovel struck something strange, it looked like an old bone. Molan had unwittingly discovered the rare skeleton of a giant Diprotodon. What can a shared understanding of Country, science and history tell us about extinction and cultural beliefs?
