The Defiant Anti-Conscriptionist: The Curious Life of Ephraim Henry Coombe

This talk by Pat Booth and Helen Hennessy examines the life of EH Coombe (1858-1917), journalist, newspaper editor, and member of Parliament for the Barossa District. He advocated for proportional voting, women’s suffrage, and against the discrimination of Lutherans during WWI. His steadfast anti-conscription stance also led to accusations of cowardice.
