Nairne: History From 1800s to Now

Visit Nairne Museum to discover the history of Nairne, established 1839. The museum is housed in the old Institute, built in 1904. Self-guided walk and drive brochures available from museum. View old Main Street buildings from the 1800s. Hear the memories of long-time residents of this historic town. Open Saturdays and Sundays in May (except 11 May). 

Venues open in main street on opening day from 10.00am to 3.00pm: Nairne Museum – originally the Nairne institute. Nairne Railway Station – Nairne Lions Club. Nairne RSL in supper room of Soldier’s Memorial Hall. Nairne CFS. Nairne market (op shop). Head, heart and hands – old carpenter and blacksmith – workshops from 10.00am making a blacksmith puppet. Uniting church hall in Allargue street: Nairne Red Cross – display including reconciliation quilt and Nairne Red Cross branch WWII quilt. Devonshire teas and other food items for sale. Nairne primary school – display of historic material. Chat corner – Nairne “long-time” residents and past residents meeting spot to reunite and reminisce. Sheehan’s hardware store in main street: open 9.00am to 1.00pm. Historic display in window all of May. Chapmans in Nairne – old Chapmans smallgoods site in main street: The tin shed distilling co – open 11am to 10pm – historic photographic display.
