Heritage can be simply defined as the special places of things that tell important stories about us and our world. Heritage is present everywhere – it is in household objects, in machinery and technology, and in buildings and landscapes. It is what we value from the past and wish to pass on to future generations. Heritage engineering is an important niche in professional practice and will become even more important in the future because of the role it plays in sustainability through the maintenance or adaptive reuse of existing structures. Over the course of the afternoon, 6 speakers will present on topics of engineering heritage in terms of national, local, indigenous, structural, sustainability, preservation and innovative practice. See website for program information.
