Power is the capacity to act to influence events and people, particularly through education to achieve the best society for all with special emphasis on human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability.

When the number of women in science and leadership was so few, sometimes only me, I knew I always had to do more than my best, not only for me but to make it easier for women and girls who came after me and to be a mentor.

In a move that was progressive among unions for its time, SAIT [now the AEU] appointed the first women’s adviser, Helen Menzies and as the Founding Chair of the Status of Women, I worked very closely with her. Much was achieved.
