Whether born of hasty choices or carefully calculated conclusions, South Australia’s history is shaped by decisions.
Decisive actions, deciding goals, dinner table dilemmas—making bold decisions is part of living fully and embracing an ever-changing future.
Consequential matters are rarely decided alone.
Decision-makers take time, they take counsel, and occasionally, take libations. Decisions have long been wrangled and cemented in South Australia’s pubs, in its restaurants, in its public buildings and traditional gathering places.
Decisions are forged in our meeting places, where lessons from the past are exchanged to shape the future.
As part of the 2025 History Festival, Kalyra proudly presents Decisions through the decades, a collection of compelling stories from three residents. Fred Lorenz, Alan Woods and Peter Harrington share their remarkable journeys through World War II and their immigration to Australia – and the decisions that fundamentally altered their life trajectories. Their stories highlight how single choices, from answering a newspaper advertisement to pursuing a trade, can shape decades of personal history. This project represents the special partnership between Kalyra and South Australia’s History Festival.
