About Time: South Australia’s History Festival saw 110,000 visitors through a record number of 550 events in May. About Time event organisers welcomed a wider age group to a broader range of activities across the month and throughout the state. With new initiatives like a program of events for families, as well as the innovative Bar Yarns program, bringing history into the pub, it was literally on for young and old this year.Other highlights of the history festival included Keith Conlon’s war memorials tour, which surveyed many of the city’s monuments, touching on stories behind the artists who created them as well as those they commemorate.Plus there was the inaugural Magical History Tour which saw a bus-load of history buffs take in a number of places of interest, including The Cedars at Hahndorf and the Murray Bridge Roundhouse. Sponsored by SA Power Networks, it commenced appropriately with a breakfast tour of the Sir Thomas Playford Museum run by past ETSA employees, starting the day off with a bang of a million volts and a bacon butty.
