Telephone Exchange at the G.P.O, Adelaide, State Library of South Australia.

The Wonder of Telecommunication

What kind of phone was in your home growing up? Did you use the tin cans and string method? What colour was your phone? Dial or buttons? We thought we had so many options to choose from back then – until the digital age took us all by surprise, with each phone superseded by the next in the blink of an eye.  How did we send mail, take photos, do banking?

We are displaying some varieties of phones from the past, along with interesting information to reminisce and wonder what it was like when certain phones were in vogue.

A.G. Bell had no idea what he started. Pop in and take a look.
