The Secret Art of Poisoning: An Author Talk with Dr Samantha Battams

How did a serial killer from the 19th century almost get away with murder? And what were the circumstances that led to two infamous poisoners in one family? This author talk explores the crimes of Martha Needle, better known as the infamous ‘Black Widow’ in the 19th century, and her nephew Alexander Lee an entire generation later; both of whom secretly poisoned their partner and children. Samantha will also discuss the social and historical context surrounding the two crimes. Bookings essential.
