Braving hostile ports upholding Victoria’s Chinese Immigration Act of the 1850s, over 16,000 Chinese miners sought landfall in South Australia to walk the 400 kilometres to the Victorian goldfields. Performed by Asian Australian artists on Robe’s beautiful, rugged coastline, where those miners first docked, The Long Walk pays homage to their tenacity in this unique contemporary dance spectacle.
Filmed during OzAsia Festival 2022 via real-time drone recording, boundary-pushing choreographer Sue Healey’s new work reveals split-second decision-making between drone pilot, director, musician and performers, in this heart-racing exploration of technology’s ability to bring people together and the courage to pursue a better life – no matter the distance.
