Plan of Adelaide, 1837 (History Trust of South Australia)

Streets Ahead: The Entrepreneurs' Vision – South Australia 1836 to Today

The 1834 South Australia Act established a free colony in South Australia based on the principles of social reform and economic liberalism. Soon also known for its religious freedom, voting rights for all men and the Torrens Title system, this project was a world-leading entrepreneurial and social experiment of its time. Our panellists include ‘Mr South Australia’ Keith Conlon, Dr Jeff Nicholas, author of Behind the Streets of Adelaide, engineering historian Richard Venus, Kirstie Parker, Director, Aboriginal Affairs, DPC and Judy Halliday, COO, Office of the South Australian Chief Entrepreneur. This fascinating journey illuminates the 185-year social and economic history of the state from 1836 to the new technology developments now driving an exciting future. Bookings essential.
