Progressive Adelaide: The Ups and Downs of Our City

The City of Adelaide’s built form sits upon a solid base laid out by Colonel William Light in 1837. While the City is rich in historic character, there is no denying the built landscape has continually changed over time. This display highlights the construction and deconstruction of some of our well-known and lesser-known buildings through a series of black-and-white archival photographs. Over the coming months see the City’s iconic spires under construction, our early ‘skyscrapers’ emerging from the ground, the workers who handcrafted and shaped our city skyline of today and sadly the demise of some of our favourite landmarks.
