The Loveday Internment Camp was established in the Riverland in 1941 and was one of the largest in Australia, it housed many international internees and Prisoners Of War during World War II. Many internees were already living in Australia but were considered a security risk, the Loveday Internment Camp display shows how these internees lives were lived during this period, including how they helped the community by growing livestock, fruit and vegetables. The internees also were involved in growing items used for medications and supplies to send over to the war effort.
A fascinating overview of a very interesting part of the Riverland’s history.
