Join cultural historian and author Dr Noris Ioannou on a Barossa field site, as he takes you on a trek into the past, unravelling the extraordinary story of the nineteenth century Barossa potter Samuel Hoffmann. Share wonderstruck revelations of the potter’s life as revealed by family oral tradition from Dr Ioannou’s interviews with now past descendants conducted 40 years ago. Hear of the folklore of the ‘Trek Tradition’, and ‘follow’ in the footsteps of the potter as he searched for clay about the Barossa hills. Inspect archaeological traces on the potter’s field of a long-gone medieval tradition of pottery-making as practiced by the potter. Finally see and marvel at surviving examples of Hoffmann’s pottery, now cultural icons of the Barossa, embodying the potter’s story as written in clay.
