From Cornwall to Moonta: A Story of Migration and Resettlement

Join author and family history researcher Dianne Griffin as she discusses her new book and how she came to hold and tell the stories of her great grandparents’ epic voyage from their village in Cornwall aboard the three masted barque The “Eastern Empire” in 1864 to Adelaide, a town then in its infancy.  Her great grandfather then worked at the Moonta Mines where he and his wife raised ten children whose descendents now live all over Australia. Including a reading from the book, historic photos, maps, ships logs and a wealth of historical information, this presentation accompanied by morning tea will be of interest to anyone descended from South Australia’s 19th century wave of migrants in particular those from Cornwall.
