About

South Australia bookended 1919 to 1939 with a pandemic and an epidemic. This collection of essays from the Professional Historians Association (SA) opens up new perspectives on a little-researched period of the history of SA. It studies the flu and polio outbreaks, examines significant examples of the built heritage, the rise of the aviation industry, the work of individual artists exhibiting their creations, the lively literary scene, the attempt to erase Germans from the map, women in pubs, the contribution of the churches, and much more. The essays are wide-ranging, entertaining and accessible, supported by many contemporary images, some in colour.
