I built my company, growing it over the years… We said we think we’ll make our own coolers. I knew that in Adelaide there were people who would be captured by new ideas. It’s the most innovative state in Australia by far, other states don’t give it the recognition, but that’s my opinion.
When I think of power in our state I think of Port Adelaide Football Club, and of Sir Thomas Playford, because he acted without self-interest. Had he not, he would have never brought all the industry to South Australia that he brought. He wasn’t stupid, and he knew that with expanded business, it would also expand union activity, which would engender support for the Labor Party. So he acted without self interest.
